Before Grand Designs inspired bold new designs, houses were mostly built to the same sort of formula.

Style and features may have varied but homes were essentially all rectangles of varying sizes.

But in Tatsfield in 1986 award-winning architects David Richmond Associates created something that was bold and innovative – The Dome.

Following the Geodesic dome structure, the futuristic looking house in Paynesfield Road received acclaim from the architectural world, national press and television.

Fast forward 31 years and The Dome still looks remarkable even by today’s more adventurous standards.

The four-bedroom detached house has gone on the market for a cool £1 million with Fine & Country Woldingham.

The property sits centrally in its own grounds of approximately half an acre with a double garage, currently being used as a studio, and outdoor swimming pool.

The atrium ceiling dominates the living area, which is flooded with lots of natural light from the triangular roof windows and is overlooked by the minstrel’s gallery on the first floor.

This spacious area is open plan to both the dining room, with French door leading to a side terrace, and a kitchen/breakfast room.
